Pennsylvania Casinos to Get Unique Table Chips

Posted by admin On October - 30 - 2010ADD COMMENTS

The chips that will be used at the table games in Pennsylvania casinos are ones that will feature unique materials that will work to keep them from being copied illegally. Each chip will feature an RFID reader. This Radio Frequency Identification technology will work to confirm that a chip is authentic and is not counterfeit. This is a technology that is similar to what is already used in Pennsylvania’s E-ZPass toll roll payment system.

Each table that these unique chips will be used on will feature a small antenna underneath its felt. This antenna will be used to confirm that the chips placed on it are real.

The table chips will work to monitor a player’s activity on a table game. This is so a person can receive proper casino rewards. This works to give rewards to players for table games like what they would be getting off of slots.

The cost per chip is $2.50. This is twice the value of the $1.25 that is spent for each chip. However, the Gaming Control Board is willing to pay this value as a means of ensuring that no counterfeit chips can be used at any table. This will work to keep all people at a casino table honest

Governor Donald Carcieri of Rhode Island has vetoed a bill that would have allowed table games in casinos to be made legal in the state.

The bill that Carcieri vetoed would have allowed voters in Rhode Island to vote on whether or not to add table games to these casinos. The vote would have occurred in November.

Carcieri has stated through a representative that he is looking to get a newer bill set up to help improve the casinos in the state. He also states that he does not want the casinos in the state to be rushed into this plan simply as a means of quickly competing with casinos in surrounding states. These include casinos that are expected to expand in size in Massachusetts in the coming months.

The governor is also looking to determine what shares the state would get out of the table games. This was not specified in the original bill.

The state legislature has an option to override the veto. There is no word yet as to whether or not the state legislature is going to do this.

Rhode Island already has two casinos in Lincoln’s Twin River and Newport’s Newport Grand. Both casinos have slot machines but no table games.

The President Casino off of the coast of the Mississippi River in St. Louis has officially closed down. The casino, which was supported to have closed on June 29, closed on June 23. The early closing came due to concerns about how the river was expected to flood for a few days. This flooding would have put the casino at risk of being shut down for a period of time.

The President, which was owned by Pinnacle Entertainment, was not doing very well with regards to its financial performance. The lack of profits in the casino and its failure to produce tax revenues for St. Louis hurt the casino’s chances to stay open.

The closing of the President is expected to create a massive level of interest among companies that are looking to get a new casino into the state. Missouri state law says that only thirteen casino licenses are allowed in the state and that all casinos must be on either the Mississippi or Missouri River. The closing of the President will leave the thirteenth license open.

It is not fully known as to what will happen to the site of the President. If a new casino comes to the St. Louis area to replace the President it will more than likely be somewhere else in the city. The site of the President has had to deal with occasional closures due to river flooding.

Atlantic City Borgata Gets a Five Year License

Posted by admin On October - 16 - 2010ADD COMMENTS

The Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa in Atlantic City has received a new license for its operation. This license, which was granted to the casino by the New Jersey Casino Control Commission, will last for five years.

The casino license will work to allow the casino to continue to legally operate in Atlantic City. This is a continuation of a prior agreement that also lasted five years. The casino has worked as one of the top casinos in the city over the past few years and is looking to maintain its top position among casinos in Atlantic City.

The license comes upon news that the fifty percent stake that MGM has in the casino is up for sale. The stake that MGM is offering will still be available to all potential buyers as the new license is put into effect. The license will not impact Boyd Gaming, the agency that owns the other fifty percent of the casino.

The Borgata will work to continue to operate despite the casino losing revenues along with other casinos in Atlantic City. Increased competition from table games in Pennsylvania and the expansion of gambling around Delaware has harmed Atlantic City’s casino revenues in recent months.

The Aqueduct race track in Jamaica, New York could be getting slot machines added to its site in a casino thanks to three bidders who are interested in bringing a casino to the race track.

Two of the bidders are single entities. These are the Penn National Gaming and gentling New York LLC entities. The third bidder is a group of investors from Hard Rock Entertainment, Clairvest Group and SL Green Realty. There were originally six bidders in the project but two dropped out and Clairvest decided to join in a larger bid.

The New York Lottery is going to recommend one of these three bids to the state at some time before August 3.

This is not the first attempt to bring a casino onto the Aqueduct track. There have been some bids made on it in the past with some of them winning. However, the state has declined each bid in the past.

If the casino is ever built on the track it will feature more than four thousand video lottery terminals. A hotel and a series of restaurants will also be included here. It is estimated that the facility would generate more than a million dollars each day if it were to open.

Posted by admin On October - 6 - 2010ADD COMMENTS

Smoking has become outlawed in working places around the state of Wisconsin as of July 5. However, tribal casinos are places where people can still smoke freely. This is not keep two tribal casinos in the state from banning smoking though.

The two Oneida One Stop casinos in Green Bay have announced that they will continue to work with smoke-free environments. The two casinos have been smoke-free since June 1 in preparation for the July 5 smoking ban.

The Oneida Tribe of Indians announced this move as a means of improving the air quality in their casinos. This was also done as a means of helping to make all of the employees at the casinos to feel more comfortable about their working environments.

The tribe is looking to see that the smoking ban will work to make sure that business can still be healthy in these casinos. However, there is a possibility that the ban could be rescinded if any possible losses caused by the ban are substantial.

Also, the Oneida Tribe has announced that its main casino near the Austin Straubel International Airport will not be impacted by the smoking ban. Smoking will still be allowed at this casino location.
