Oregon Voters to Vote on Legislation for Casinos
Although the state of Oregon already offers Indian tribal casinos, there is a potential that private businesses may be allowed to open casinos in the state. The people of Oregon will be heading to the polls to vote on Measure 75. This is a proposition that, if passed, will allow these private businesses to open up their own casinos around the state.
If Measure 75 is passed the money that will be raised by the casinos created in the measure will end up being taxed through the state as a gambling tax. The revenues will be sent towards the state’s education fund. This will also work to ensure that general taxes are not raised for people who do not use the casinos and that people will use this money on Oregon schools instead of going to other states to gamble at casinos.
The totals for how many jobs would be created and how much would be raised is unknown. Measure 75 is expected to get at least five thousand new jobs created in various sections around Oregon. Also, it is expected to help with raising about $150 million for the state each year. These are all estimates used to determine how successful the casinos may be.
