Oregon Voters to Vote on Legislation for Casinos

Posted by admin On November - 22 - 2010ADD COMMENTS

Although the state of Oregon already offers Indian tribal casinos, there is a potential that private businesses may be allowed to open casinos in the state. The people of Oregon will be heading to the polls to vote on Measure 75. This is a proposition that, if passed, will allow these private businesses to open up their own casinos around the state.

If Measure 75 is passed the money that will be raised by the casinos created in the measure will end up being taxed through the state as a gambling tax. The revenues will be sent towards the state’s education fund. This will also work to ensure that general taxes are not raised for people who do not use the casinos and that people will use this money on Oregon schools instead of going to other states to gamble at casinos.

The totals for how many jobs would be created and how much would be raised is unknown. Measure 75 is expected to get at least five thousand new jobs created in various sections around Oregon. Also, it is expected to help with raising about $150 million for the state each year. These are all estimates used to determine how successful the casinos may be.

Ground was broken on the upcoming casino that will be created at the Aqueduct Race Track in Queens, New York. The casino will open in a long abandoned wing of the race track and will offer a number of functions.

This new space for the casino will feature 4,500 slot machines as its main feature. An outdoor entertainment area alongside a series of stages for entertainment events will also be added. A full food court is also going to be featured at the casino.

The first parts of the casino are expected to open up in May 2011. About 1,600 of the machines will be open at this time. The entire project will be completed some time in 2012.

The casino will help to raise about a million dollars for the state of New York on a daily basis. It is also going to provide about eight hundred permanent jobs and thirteen hundred union jobs.

The construction comes amid a series of concerns involving the ownership of the Aqueduct track and failed bidding events. Also, there have been concerns about where a local flea market that meets in the nearby parking lot at the track is going to hold its events in.

The city council in North Charleston, South Carolina has passed a series of ordinances allowing the use of casino boats to sail out of the city. Four ordinances were passed in this hearing to allow these boats to begin operation.

The boats will be able to dock in North Charleston in a couple of months. It is expected that at least one or two boats will be ready in time for the summer of 2011.

A major part of the ordinances used for these casinos comes from how the city is going to earn a share of the profits that these boats bring in. A percentage of the money that the boats will earn off of their operations will be taken in by the city in exchange for allowing the boats to operate in the area. It is estimated that the boats could end up bringing in about a million dollars to the city.

The ordinances were passed despite protests. Some argued that these casino boats would introduce them to gambling but city council determining that only people who could afford to access these boats could use them. There is even the potential that people will not gamble all the time when on these boats.

Louisiana Casinos Fall in Revenues in May

Posted by admin On November - 8 - 2010ADD COMMENTS

The revenues that were received by the eighteen casinos in Louisiana were down in May. The riverboat casinos, race track casinos and downtown New Orleans casino received a combined total of $203.6 million in May. This is a decline of nearly ten percent from what the casinos received in May 2009.

The revenues that were received by the thirteen riverboat casinos in Louisiana went down by fifteen million dollars in value. This is a concern to the state in that these riverboat casinos dominate a majority of the revenues that casinos in the state handle.

The slumping economy is cited as a major reason as to why Louisiana casinos are losing revenues. However, the recent oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico has been found to be a major influencing factor. The concerns about the safety of the Gulf Coast and fears of what could happen in the event of a hurricane have impacted tourism in the state. This is causing the casinos in the state to end up losing money.

It is expected that the casinos in the state may end up losing more money for months to come unless the recent oil spill is fixed. The timetable for this is unknown.

Delaware Park Opens Table Games

Posted by admin On November - 3 - 2010ADD COMMENTS

The Delaware Park Racetrack, Slots and Golf facility in Wilmington, Delaware has opened up its new table games. The casino is the second in the state to offer table games.

The table games that are featured at Delaware Park include poker, blackjack and roulette games. There are more than twenty poker tables around the casino that have opened up here. These games will go alongside the three thousand video lottery terminals and regular horse racing activities at the park.

The main reason for the introduction of these table games is to help with making Delaware more competitive among other nearby states in the gaming industry. This is especially the case with the growth of gambling in Pennsylvania and Maryland. Concerns about how table games will be introduced in Pennsylvania casinos in July has added to the need to get more table games to be introduced in Delaware.

Reports suggest that Delaware will earn at least forty million dollars each year off of taxes from table games. This is in addition to the more than two hundred million dollars that have been raised by slots on an annual basis.

Delaware Park has joined the Harrington Raceway and Casino among casinos in Delaware that offer table games.
