Governor Donald Carcieri of Rhode Island has vetoed a bill that would have allowed table games in casinos to be made legal in the state.

The bill that Carcieri vetoed would have allowed voters in Rhode Island to vote on whether or not to add table games to these casinos. The vote would have occurred in November.

Carcieri has stated through a representative that he is looking to get a newer bill set up to help improve the casinos in the state. He also states that he does not want the casinos in the state to be rushed into this plan simply as a means of quickly competing with casinos in surrounding states. These include casinos that are expected to expand in size in Massachusetts in the coming months.

The governor is also looking to determine what shares the state would get out of the table games. This was not specified in the original bill.

The state legislature has an option to override the veto. There is no word yet as to whether or not the state legislature is going to do this.

Rhode Island already has two casinos in Lincoln’s Twin River and Newport’s Newport Grand. Both casinos have slot machines but no table games.

Poker – The History of The Enticing Game

Posted by admin On October - 27 - 2009ADD COMMENTS

The history of poker goes a long way back. It is more than close to eleven centuries old. It is based on the “domino strategy” or “stacked cards strategy”. It also involves the famous concept of “bluffing”. When you listen to all these common terms, it may seem to a novice that the game is a mixture or combination of a few common games. But it is not so. It has always been believed that poker was invented by the Chinese. The Chinese Emperor was playing “domino cards” with his spouse. And well, let’s just say he had a brain wave of sorts and voila! He invented something along the lines of Poker, which was later modified to the way we play it today.

This game has also been known to originate from the Egyptians. It has been discovered that Egyptians used playing cards, which they called “cards of treasure” for gambling games. These cards were very precious as they were made of ivory, cut into thin rectangular slices.

Another story of the origination of poker would lead us to the French territory. A game called “pochen” became an intriguing game in the early 17th century. The stakes were high in this game and there was excessive bluffing. This has been discovered to be similar to the modern day poker. The reason it spread to USA was because the French had settled in the Mississippi area for a while. It soon spread like wild fire from there. But it had a funny name. It was called “the cheating game”. This game became very popular because of its ethics. Can you believe that?! An ethical gambling game! Well, in a nutshell, this game seemed to be much better than card games, where any one could cheat and get away with it. Although it was named the “cheating game” it ended up being a much more honest way of playing.

By the 19th century poker had spread to all the coasts of America. It was the favorite time pass of soldiers in the army. It soon came to be known as “wild card” as incidentally it seemed to make men go “wild” while playing it, thus coining the name “wild card”. Another origin of this name is related to the fact that it was also played in the “wild” west. This game was later documented. It was refined a number of times by expert players who tried to pull out all the faults in the game. And over the years it came to be known as poker.

Poker is a very popular game. It has spread worldwide. It seems to be a game of strategy, hence a lot of people find it challenging. It is highly addictive. This game also shows its popularity in movies. It is always the game to be played by the famous tuxedo agents, remember Casino Royale? This game also has its variations in different countries but the central concept is the same everywhere. So if you haven’t tried this game, it’s never too late to do so now!

Backgammon – A History

Posted by admin On October - 4 - 2009ADD COMMENTS

The game of Backgammon relates back to the Mesopotamian Empire and Persian Empire (present Iraq, Iran, and Syria). It is known to be one of the oldest games to be recorded. It was one of the first board games to be created.
This game was originally played on wooden surfaces. Stone markers were used. The dies were made of bones, wood or stone. It was popular among the people of Egypt, Greece and Rome. This game was popular among the elite classes of the ancient society.
But no one knew of such a game until artifacts were found. The remains were found in the tomb of Chaldees. A few dies and boards were excavated along with his tomb. The rules of the game were also found written on a tablet.

There was such evidence in Rome too. The ancient Romans used to play a game called, “Ludus Duodecim Scriptorum”, also known as the “game of twelve lines”. It consisted of leather boards and a set of markers made of ivory or ebony. This game later spread to Britain.

This game spread to that area because of Roman conquest. There, it was referred to as “tabula”. But the game never really survived. It was modified so much that a new kind of game evolved. This was played regularly by the Emperor Claudius. Later he wrote about the game, but the records didn’t seem to survive and were never found. His carriage always had a tabula board and dice so he could entertain himself during travel. This was the game that started the whole mania of gambling. This spread to Rome and was soon declared an illegal practice. There was also a fine imposed on those who gambled. It was four times what the gamblers earned in a game.

Later this moved on to becoming an art that only a few had mastered. The game rules were modified and it soon came to be called “backgammon”. This game spread like wild fire through out the world. Later, ethical rules came to be related to this game and it was played by quite a lot of people.

This game is Backgammon is now played in different parts of the world. And at each place there are a few variations, which one who is not too accustomed to the game would have to learn. The western version is very unique and is considered to be more challenging for players. The eastern version is similar to the game as when it was first started. This game used to be very popular among royalty in the olden days. It was considered an elite game, played only by the most respectable community. But who would have known that this game would go on to becoming so popular! It has now moved on to attract almost any one and everyone! This game is very easy to grasp and like any game of gamble, extremely addictive. It is an entertainer and is definitely worth taking a shot at.

In the year 1778, the first Bingo history game in France was recorded; however with small changes to the game such as the division of the cards in 9 vertical rows and 3 horizontal rows. Each vertical row contained 10 numbers in the order in increasing order, from 1 to 90.
  • Germans played Bingo history in the early 1800’s but was not used as a form of entertainment, but as a learning tool for children to learn math, history and spelling.
  • The game became popular in the USA from the year 1929 onwards. Here a different version of bingo was played using a table shaped like a horseshoe using dried beans and numbered cards. The dried beans were used as type of marker. After a line was completed, a person had to call out Beano and this is the way the name Bingo history came about.
  • Beano soon became Bingo after one very excited person called out Bingo instead of Beano. This name soon caught and is known as Bingo ever since.

  • Unlike in America, where the Bingo clubs had to draw numbers from a bag, the numbers from British bingo history clubs were drawn from glass cabinets that had fans attached to them and where the numbers were written on ping pong balls.
  • In 1968, the parliament passed another gaming act which gave Bingo history clubs authority to play prize and catch Bingo. It also established a separate Gaming Board to regulate and look after the various Bingo clubs in the UK.
