  • The bets should be made on the consecutive three cards that are faced upwards
  • The high/low combination is another challenge to novice players. One alone should never be used as the chances of winning or losing, either one maybe greater than the other. But if you think about it, it’s risky. I mean, the chances of losing are equally present. Thus an alternative to overcome this hurdle is to not wholly depend on the first five cards that have their face up.
  • It is better to play it safe. Probability is a common strategy used in this game. The probability of best sets is calculated by the player. If the probability ranges from 0.7 –10, then the player bets high. If it lies between 0.5 and 0.7, the player bets average. If it is below the threshold of 0.5, the player ought to fold.
  • Permutations and combination of numbers also comes into the picture. If a person’s mental calculation speed is high he has a sure advantage at the game.
  • The cards that face up might not all be at your mercy. There are some that might favor the opponent too. So care should be taken that those cards are not circulated during play. It is not too easy to identify these cards though. They may be deceptive too. Once again the art of probability comes into the picture. If the type of cards your opponents have, can be figured out by you (approximately), then the easier it will be to spot those black cards of yours.
  • A set of straights can also be a disadvantage sometimes as it reduces your opportunities of making better quality sets. Some use a very sneaky strategy when it comes to this. Some players allow their opponent to continuously make sets of straights until they obtain the cards they (the player) require. In this way they eventually end up obtaining sets that have value greater than the opponent’s sets of straights, all summed up.

Although poker may be a fun game where the interaction between people is high, it could also have a downside if the people you associate with are not too nice.
