Blackjack History

The game blackjack came from France. This game is date from 1700 in the land based casinos from Paris. Also this card game is also known as 21 (vingt-et-un in french). When this game was introduce in the United States, it wasn’t as popular as it is now. So the casinos back then had to offer many types of promotions/bonuses to the player in order to make them play this new casino card game. One of the bonuses that was rewarded to the new players of blackjack back then was a 10 to 1 bonus payout if the player’s had an ace of

spades and a black jack. This is why the game was named blackjack. At the beginning the game was named by the french 21. After some time the casinos took off that bonus, and let the game be just like it now.

As time goes by more and more people started to enjoy this game, and soon it become one of the most popular casino game in the world. There are some online casinos that are focusing only on this game like BlackjackBallRoom. Some people managed to create some really big blackjack tournaments, where players from all around the world compete for a grand prize. This way all you have to do is deposit an entry fee of $50 and you will be in a great challenge with the best players from all around the world.

During the blackjack history many people wrote a lot of books, about the winning strategies at blackjack. These books were successful, some are a must have for any professional player.

An important moment in the history of blackjack was the moment, when for the first time some people invented a card counting electronic device. That was a handheld small device. This happened in 1977. When Ken Uston invented that device, and multiplicate it, and gave to another 5 friends of his the device, and went to hit the casinos. It is written in papers that they managed to take out $100k, from casinos from Atlantic City, another great destination for casino players besides Las Vegas. One of his friends was caught by a casino, and had the device confiscated. The device was turned to the FBI, and after some investigations, he was declared to be innocent, because it only uses information that are public, and that anyone could see. This was the official answer to this happening. But the casinos didn’t have the same opinion about this. It is a well known fact that if you get caught by doing something to trick the casinos even if it’s legal, you will be banned from the casino, and there is an international list, that all the major casinos are using, and by using that list you will not be able to enter a casino in the future, since this kind of places are only allowing selected guest to enter it.

Myths about Blackjack

Posted by admin On August - 15 - 2008ADD COMMENTS

There are many myths that were building around this card game. One of the most important myth that was created around this card game is that you must aim to get 21, but you must think of not as your main objective to get that number, your main objective must be to beat the dealer’s hand, and even if you don’t have 21, you can still win.

Another myth that was created around this game is that the dealer only plays by following the house rules that he will never change, he will never take a decision, and he will always be like that. If you are winning it means that the deck composition is right now in your favor, also another great thing about blackjack is that you can take decision, after you analyze what is happening on the table, you can use previous experience and you can take action so that you could win.

A really popular myth that is still alive around each and every casino that have blackjack, is that if you’ve lost 5-10 hands with the dealer, the chances that you will win are a lot bigger. This myth is not true. Mathematically speaking you has the same chances for winning/losing. Even if you lose 10 times in a row, you still have chances of 48% of winning against the dealer. This number is based on a large number games, so if you play just 10 games you will not probably win 4 or 5. This number will be valid if you play 100 blackjack games, and you will see that these statistics are true.

It is also a wide spread myth the fact that if you have at your table some unskilled players, this could also hurt your chances of winning. This myth is true, statistically speaking if somebody that plays blackjack randomly is at your table; this could hurt you a lot. It’s more likely that you lose too if you’ve got such a person at your blackjack table. This is why we are suggesting that you will stand out from that table and move to another one.

And the final myth that we are going to bust in this article is that if a player enters or leaves in the middle of the game you are going to lose, and this will cost you some money. This myth is not true, since your chances of winning will stay the same, the only difference will be that he will take/leave a card in the deck, and instead of taking that card, it could be yours or the dealer could take it depending during what moment of the game he leaves. So you shouldn’t be afraid if someone leaves. The only inconvenient that could be is that if somebody is leaving this could distract your attention for a moment, but professional players wont have any problem with that.

Blackjack Probabilities

Posted by admin On July - 15 - 2008ADD COMMENTS

Before you start playing blackjack, you must first know exactly what are the Probabilities. In the next table we are going to show what are the probabilities for you to get more than 21, and lose the game.
So taking into consideration all these factors you must understand what chances you have to win the moment you will be hitting the HIT button. So my personal opinion is that if you have less than 11 you should definitely HIT! There is no doubt about this, but if you go up and hit it after you have passed 15, you the chances wont be on your side.

Hand Value % Bust If You Hit
21 100%
20 92%
19 85%
18 77%
17 69%
16 62%
15 58%
14 56%
13 39%
12 31%
11 or Less 0%

In most casinos that are available right not the dealer has an advantage of appropriate 8% more than you have, so statistically it is more likely that he will win. But there are still some other factors that if you take into consideration you will be able to win.

The probabilities that you win playing blackjack are one of the highest if you compare this game with other online casino games.

If you will correctly use some strategies and techniques that are often used when ‘playing this game’, you will be able to ‘manipulate the odds’ to your favor. This is why most of casinos will not allow players to count cards that are being used in a game of blackjack. If you will use that technique you will be able to take down the dealer’s advantage from 8% down to 0.5%. This way it will be only a matter of time until you will be able to win.

In order to be able to count the cards, you must have a very good memory, but if you will practice this for some time you will be able to do it. And this way you will be able to win a lot of money from casinos. It is known that this strategy is not illegal, but if the casinos will find out that you have been doing this in order to make your chances to increase, they will probably throw you out. But you will still keep the money.

Blackjack Rules

Posted by admin On June - 25 - 2008ADD COMMENTS

In the game of Blackjack the player is competing directly with the dealer in order to see who can achieve the highest hand without exceeding twenty one.  A hand that exceeds the number twenty one is considered to be a bust is referred to as such.  In valuing the cards in the deck each card is given a numerical value.  Cards with a numeral value on them are said to be valued at their face value.  These are the cards with the number 2 through 10 on their face.  The face cards; Jack, Queen, and King are valued at the number 10.  The Ace is valued at 11 or 1 depending on the player’s hand.  The Ace is valued at the number 11 unless this would cause the player to bust which the value then changes to 1.  A hand with the Ace valued at 11 is considered to be a soft hand because the player can draw another card without the possibility of a bust.  The goal of each player is to exceed the value of the dealers hand without busting.

Before the cards are dealt each player is asked to place a minimum bet.  The minimum amount that has to be bet is marked on the table at which the player is seated.  After the players place their initial bets the dealer deals two cards to the players from the deck.  The size of the deck depends on the style of Blackjack.  In a “pitch” game either one or two decks are used and all of the player’s cards are dealt face down.  In a “shoe” game the dealer deals from 4 or more decks and the player’s cards are dealt face up.  In both games one of the dealer’s cards is dealt face down with another being dealt face up.  The face down card in known as the “hole card”.  After the cards are dealt if the dealer has an Ace as the face up card the players are offered insurance before the dealer checks to see if they have Blackjack.  Insurance allows the players to place a side bet up to half their original bet that the dealer does have Blackjack.  This bet pays 2:1 if the dealer does have insurance but is an unwise bet unless the player is counting cards.  Under normal circumstance the player is always betting against the odds.

After each player is dealt two cards and the dealer does not have Blackjack it becomes the player’s turn to act.  Each player has the options of
Hit-Taking another card (A player can hit as many times as they like until they bust)
Stand-Taking no more cards (ends player’s turn)
Double Down-Doubling their bet and taking exactly one more card to be place face down and to be revealed at the end of the dealers turn. (ends player’s turn)
Split-Double the original wager and each card becomes its own hand.  A player can only split is both of the original cards have the same face value.
Surrender-Forfeit half of the original bet and be removed from the hand(ends player’s turn)

The players turn ends after deciding to Stand, Double Down, Surrender, or if the player busts.  If the player busts they lose the original bet even if the dealer also busts.  After all players are finished their turns the dealer reveals the “hole card”.  House rules will dictate what actions the dealer must take.  Common rules are dealer must hit until at least 17 and at some places the dealer must hit a soft 17, a hand with an Ace valued at 11.  If the dealer busts all remaining players win.  If the player push, has the same number as the house, then they receive their original bet back. All wining players are normally paid 1:1.

Blackjack

Posted by admin On June - 19 - 2008ADD COMMENTS

The game Blackjack, also referred to as 21, is the most popular card game in the world.  Blackjack is very easy to learn.  With time and effort Blackjack is one of the few casino games were the player is able to even their odds of winning against the house.  The rules for the game of blackjack vary depending on the location in which the game is being played.  Blackjack was originally invented by the French around the year 1700.  It was not until the game migrated to the United States that the name Blackjack became popular.  The phrase originates from a 10 to 1 bonus that casinos paid out if the player have Spade’s Ace and either Club’s or Spade’s Jack.  This hand was referred to as Blackjack.  The name has stuck with the game even though the 10 to 1 payout for this hand has since been removed.  In the current game an ace and a face card is consider to be “blackjack” or natural.

The goal of Blackjack is to get the highest hand that does not exceed 21 by using the cards in a player’s hand.  The ace is worth either 11 or one depending on which value the player chooses.  Face cards are worth 10 and the number cards are worth the value of their number.  At the beginning of each turn every player places their initial bets for the round.  After the bets are placed everyone is dealt two cards.  While multiple players can be involved in one Blackjack game every player is competing only against the dealer.  In order to win the player must have a higher hand that does not exceed 21 when being compared to the dealer.  The dealer is always last to act and depending on the location of the game will have set rules that need to be followed.  These rules often included hit to until 17 and stay on 17 and above.

Blackjack has gained popularity amongst card players because of the ease of understanding the game along with the opportunity for the player to even the odds of winning against the house.  While Blackjack still has an element of chance involved the results are also dependant on the card player abilities.  There are many different strategies that players use in order to move the odds in their favor.  By using what is know as Basic Strategy a Blackjack player can reduce the house’s advantage to less than one percent.  Through the use of other techniques such as card counting, composition-dependant strategy, and shuffle tracking the player is able to gain an advantage on the house.
