Playing Draw Poker
Draw poker is a well known version of the card game. Even though it is rarely seen online or in big casinos, it is the most common poker game played in homes with friends and family. Since draw poker is no longer the mainstream type of poker played, many have forgotten how to play draw poker or have never even learned to if they were more occupied with Texas Hold’em or other popular variants. This version is extremely popular because it is easy to learn and the betting rounds are easy to follow and fun.
In order to play draw poker you will need at least two players, but eight can actually play in any round. Any more than eight is not possible, though. The game is started by each player making an initial bet. Then the cards are dealt by the dealer and each player will receive five cards, all of which must be dealt face down so that no player other than the person receiving the cards can see them. This is very important, because you are not allowed to let the others know what cards are in your hand.
Once everyone has had a chance to assess the cards and decide upon which poker hand they have a chance of achieving, such as full house or three of a kind, then another round of betting takes place. The game starts off with the player to the left of the dealer and this second round of bets is better known as an ante, which happens to mean a forced bet. After the player’s have decided upon a game strategy they can then trade in or exchange up to three cards from their hand. These cards are then replaced with three cards from the remaining of the deck that were not dealt out originally.
Trading in cards can be done however the player wants, as long as no more than three are exchanged for others. It is not mandatory to always choose three cards to trade, as it is just as legitimate to trade in one, two or even none. It all depends on the hand you were dealt and what poker hand you are striving for. Once you are done with the trading, you have to call a stand.
Once everyone has completed the card trading, then a new betting round takes place. In draw poker it is not necessary to continue with the betting, especially if you know that your hand is not great or has little chance of winning. Of course, you can always raise the bid and see if your opponents will follow suit or not and if they don’t, you have bluffed them and won with an inferior hand of cards. The players will reveal cards at the end of the betting and the winner is simply the person with the highest ranking hand of cards. The rankings for the hands are the same as for all poker games and, for example, the royal flush is the highest possible hand and if you have the same cards of a kind then the winner with the highest number or picture card wins.
